My mission in life is “mentoring others to grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord.”
To expand this mission, I started Purposed Joy. I want to see other’s grow in their relationship with the Lord, and one of the visual results of this growth is joy. However, this joy is not a joy that happens unintentionally, but it is a joy that is purposefully pursued through daily time with the Lord and applying His Word to life.
I grew up in the deep South of Alabama where the Mourning Doves coo at sunrise, thunderstorms flood every summer afternoon, fresh cut grass steams in the sun, and the alligators crash into the bayou after a long day of sunning.
There, my family spent many weekends camping, riding bikes, and planning ministry events. My dad was a youth pastor when I was a child and became the senior pastor during my college years. Church was my second home.
In college, I received my Bachelors in Secondary Education with a major in English and a minor in TESOL and then became a high school English teacher. I graduated with a Masters in Professional Writing a couple years later.
Through it all, my favorite thing was working with young ladies and women listening to their stories about love and loss, happiness and hurt. When I’m not teaching, you can often find me sitting with a young lady at a coffee shop or bubble tea cafe talking about life. Out of my struggle with grain and dairy food allergies, I have learned some yummy recipes for creating a lifestyle of health and joy. I will share those with you from time to time. Ultimately, I learned from each person’s story.
Through my studies, I found that true and lasting joy is only found in the Lord and spending time in His Word. Items and people may bring happiness for a while, but circumstances happen, and soon that happiness fades away like the strength of the sun at dusk. Joy sustains amidst difficult circumstances. Joy bubbles up through bad news and trials. Joy is exuberant on good days. But joy doesn’t come unless intentionally pursued. I desire for others to experience purposed joy like they have always wanted.
